Spanish camp at Concordia Language Camps (El Lago Del Bosque)

Yesterday I got back from Spanish camp and it was amazing! I know you Frenchies hated French camp 'cause they were all speaking in fluent French. They were doing that with us, except Spanish instead of French. If you pay attention you can figure out what they're saying...
Anyway, El Lago Del Bosque, which means Lake of the Woods, was the camp and it was really fun. Everything was Caribbean (El Caribe) themed, the food was delicioso, etc. My favorite food was the piña colada cookies. Or the salsa... No se... And I've noticed that I just CANNOT STOP SPEAKING ESPAÑOL!!! Even when I don't try, I end up saying lo siento, or gracias, or hola, or SOMETHING in Spanish. Voy a intentar parar el hablar de español. (I will try to stop speaking Spanish.) But it probably won't work...
Well, I'd better stop before I confuse you further....

2nd post of the day...

Okay, I thought I was done for today. Apparently I'm not...
Alright, straight to the point, I thought this was HILARIOUS: the UK's national anthem ("God Save The Queen") has the same melody as "My Country Tis Of Thee". This is another one of those "the chicken or the egg" scenarios: Did we copy them? Or did they copy us?
That's your homework for today, children!
ENJOY!

Failure-ness

I just realized my life is FILLED with fails. Example: this blog. I was adding a post a day. For less than a week.... Then I (unintentionally) wait another month.
ANYWAY, today is the first day for the honor jazz band I'm in. Scott Highlands Middle School in Apple Valley... Just so you know, I'm not saying that it's a long drive ('cause it's not), just that I don't know the school very well (a.k.a. at all) and I don't even know where I'm supposed to go. I should probably check the email...
Also, I'm in a regular honor band (not jazz). Which is in Austin.... I don't even know where that is!!
Then there's Spanish camp next week in Bemiji (? I don't know how it's spelled and I don't wanna look it up).
So that's it at the moment. ENJOY!

the second day of health class

I guess school isn't a waste. In my second day of health we learned the names of almost half the bones in the body, and then repeated it over and over 'til there's no way for me to forget any of it: skull, cranium, parietal, cranium, parietal, frontal. Okay let's start again. When we finally got through the skull (skull, cranium, parietal, frontal, temporal, occipital, mandible, maxilla) we started on the abdomen. Clavicle, scapula, sternum, xiphoid process, ribs: 1-7 true, 8-10 false, 11 12 floaters. I don't think I will ever forget those names. EVER! And I didn't really believe my health teacher when she said we'd learn the names of all the bones in a week...

Anyway. Enough on the bones. Well, that's really it. So, bye for now!

Okay, I decided to post my new story. I started it today, and why not try and get some feedback?

As I lay uncomfortably on my floor, staring at my painfully slow laptop and pretending to do homework, I think about that on person you all know but never think about. She gets average grades, she has average looks. Everything about her is average. She tries to blend in, but only because it hurts too much to stand out.
Then I think about how much I want to not be her.

Okay, let's start from the beginning.
My name is Amelia. I pretend I'm everyone's friend, and they pretend to be mine, but everyone can see through the lie. There's only a few people who have proven to be true friends.
"Hey Amelia!" Thank the powers that be. It's Lexie, real friend número uno. Not that there's an order. I just don't think I'd have been able to put on another mask for someone like Monique or Brittany.
"Hey!" I reply with more enthusiasm than usual.
"You look like you needed some saving from these disastrous surroundings," she said with a huge smile as she gestured around the empty library. As I followed her hand with my eyes, I glanced at the clock and gasped.
"Oh, my god! It's already that late?!" The clock told me that school had already been over for an hour.
"Yep," she told me with a smirk. "C'mon. My mom's outside"
"'Kay." I'm never gonna live this one down, I thought as I mentally shook my head and physically gathered my things.
Out in her mom's car, we turned Paramore up all the way and sang the lyrics at the top of our lungs.

That's all I have at the moment. Let me know what ya think!

Packers and Bears play-off game

So the Packers are going to the superbowl. Half my family is jumping for joy. I'm enthused. Not.

I went to Randy and Megan's yesterday to watch the game. I ended up chasing already 2-year-old John (OH MY GOD!!!) around. Jack is so cute, too. (Oh, that's right. Uhh, there's some things I forgot in the last post: 1. Jack, John's new brother, was born in November. 2. Liam, Mari and Brian's son, was born in December. 3. I started teaching myself how to play the guitar. 4. Ally started teaching me how to play the piano. 5. I tried out for the Minnesota Jazz Education Association's honor band, but didn't make it. I think that's it...) For food, there was chili, veggies, bbq meatballs, and Megan made a delicious gnocchi soup. I could have eaten that all day! I also played Clocks by Coldplay and part of Glitter in the Air by P!nk on the piano.

So, yeah. That's my Sunday. I'll hopefully find some decent pictures to put of Thomas, Jack, John, etc.

Sunday, January 23, 2011

Okay, this is for the people who actually look at this:
some things have happened since I posted
1. Thomas turned one, and Carolyn came to his birthday party.
2. I went to the Thespian Festival with the Farmington High School speech team. I went to workshops and watched some one-act plays. Farmington's one-act was the Radium Girls. It was amazing. Too bad we didn't win anything for it.
3. I found out I'm going to the MathCounts competition on February 4th at Inver Hills Community College. We go to Mr. Schalm's room probably around 5th hour, have some pizza, and skip the rest of the day at a big math competition for the Twin Cities. We don't get back until 2 hours after school ends.
4. I'm getting my braces off on February 2nd! I can't wait!
5. I registered for high school. I'm taking honors english, honors physics, geometry, algebra II, jazz band, band/choir, civics, and Spanish II.
6. I'm taking tennis lessons at Match Point in Lakeville. They are really helping.

Uhh, I think that's it... I don't know. But you get the gist.
Does anyone even read this?
